What is an MRI?
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) may represent the most significant advancement
in medical imaging since the discovery of x-rays. The MRI image is created through an
interaction between radiofrequency and a strong magnetic field. It provides a way
to look inside the body by producing clear anatomical images displayed in any plane,
without radiation to the patient, and with a tissue discrimination unrivaled by any other imaging modality.
MRI has much greater soft tissue imaging contrast than computed tomography (CT or Cat Scan)
making it especially useful in neurological (brain), musculoskeletal, cardiovascular and oncological (cancer) imaging.
